What Is Shockwave Therapy?

A crucial tool in wellness, sports medicine, and injury recovery, shockwave therapy (also called “radial pressure”) is a treatment for musculoskeletal ailments that helps patients enjoy more rapid and complete healing.

Radial pressure waves are acoustic waves that generate oscillations in the tissue; the pressure helps to boost cellular circulation and metabolism to speed up healing. We apply shockwaves to patients, delivered in short, high-energy pulses to target the specific tissue in need of healing and restoration. During treatment, each 5-100MPa pulse lasts for a duration of approximately 10 milliseconds.

What to expect with Adapt

When you book a session with Adapt, your radial pressure treatment is tailored specifically to your needs. Shockwave appointments are weekly for the first several sessions and typically last 30 minutes each.

While the treatment is pain-free, some patients will experience mild discomfort during these sessions, depending on pain tolerance, duration of treatment, and existing pain due to injury.

For the majority of patients, the discomfort is minimal and the benefits are noticeable and long-lasting.
